About Croft

Croft is one of the UK’s fastest-growing Managed Service Providers, recognised for our technical excellence, service innovation, and genuine commitment to customer success. We work with schools, businesses, and organisations across the UK to modernise their IT, communications, and network infrastructure — delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions that make a real difference.

We operate at the cutting edge of managed services, and we’re growing fast — which means real opportunities for the people who join us.

The Role

We’re looking for an experienced IT Field Engineer to join our London team, primarily supporting educational sector clients alongside a growing commercial customer base. You’ll be the primary on-site engineer for your accounts — trusted to deliver complex infrastructure work independently, build strong customer relationships, and represent Croft at its best.

This is a hands-on, field-based role. You’ll be out at customer sites most days, so confidence working directly with clients and the ability to manage your own workload are essential.

What You’ll Do

Technical Delivery

  •  Install, configure, and commission Microsoft-based IT solutions and associated network infrastructure at customer sites, acting as the primary on-site engineer for delivery.
  •  Physically install and configure enterprise-grade server hardware (primarily Dell and HPE), including firmware, RAID, and operating system installation.
  •  Provide regular on-site support and guidance to education sector customers, including migrations to Google for Education, LGFL, and other education-based technologies and suppliers.
  •  Build, upgrade, and migrate Windows Server environments (2012–2025), including Active Directory, Group Policy, file and print services, and core server roles.
  •  Carry out planned infrastructure upgrades, server replacements, and customer migrations, following agreed project plans and escalating risk where appropriate.
  •  Attend regular customer site visits across London and the South East, completing new delivery project work and supporting break/fix resolution.
  •  Support client relocations, upgrades, and change requests.

Collaboration & Communication

  •  Work closely with the Service Desk and Project teams to ensure smooth delivery and transition of services into support.
  •  Keep customers informed and confident throughout delivery — escalating technical issues or risks clearly when additional input is needed.

Operational Excellence

  •  Maintain accurate records, job sheets, and asset documentation for every visit.
  •  Ensure compliance with technical standards, health and safety guidelines, and Croft’s operational processes.
  •  Manage your tools, test equipment, and vehicle stock to ensure you’re always ready for the day ahead.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Knowledge

  •  Minimum 3 years’ field-based IT experience, ideally within an MSP or project-focused environment. Experience in education is a bonus.
  •  Proven hands-on experience delivering Windows Server installations, upgrades, and migrations (2012–2025), including:

– Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy (including printer deployment)

– Hyper-V and ESXi management

– Firewall configuration — Sonicwall, Watchguard, Fortinet, or Draytek

– Enterprise-grade server hardware from Dell, HPE, or similar

  •  Strong experience with Windows client operating systems and Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, MFA, SSO).
  •  Solid understanding of IP networking, VLANs, and wireless deployments. Working knowledge of VoIP/UC platforms is advantageous.

Qualifications & Certifications

  •  Vendor or manufacturer certifications are desirable (Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, or similar).
  •  Full UK driving licence is required.

Personal Attributes

  •  Professional, reliable, and confident working directly with customers — you’re comfortable being the face of Croft on site.
  •  Self-sufficient and organised: you can manage your workload independently while knowing when to escalate.
  •  Adaptable — comfortable moving between different environments, customers, and technologies day to day.
  •  Excellent time management and a commitment to doing the job properly.
  •  Willing to travel across London and the South East, with flexibility when project demands require it.

This Role May Not Be the Right Fit If…

We want to be transparent about what this role involves, so candidates can quickly decide if it aligns with their experience. This role may not be the right fit if you:

  •  Have only worked in a service desk or remote support role and haven’t regularly delivered on-site infrastructure projects.
  •  Don’t have hands-on experience building, upgrading, or migrating Windows Server environments in the field.
  •  Are not comfortable being the lead engineer on site, responsible for delivery and direct customer communication.
